Development | Validation of ambient lighting.
A door opens, the lights come on. It might sound simple but, in the world of electronics development, it’s a complex task. Our engineers create datasets for all light modules installed in the vehicle and help you to validate them. In addition to the functional validation of light modules, our ASAP specialists validate the RGB LED modules in ambient lighting systems. By developing a new test bench and implementing the required test automation, we ensure markedly higher test coverage in no time at all. Our automated testing systems determine whether the RGB LED gamut – that is, the entirety of colours the module can display within the CIE Norm Valent System – is actually properly displayed.
ASAP software reduces the development time for HUD concepts.
The introduction of head-up displays offers major potential to improve driving safety. To achieve this, however, individual functions need to meet high requirements and must not distract the driver or overload them with information. This makes UX and usability studies essential. A proprietary development from ASAP is now helping to overcome a major challenge for the automotive sector – namely the fact that, until now, it was not possible to evaluate head-up displays before the first hardware prototype was installed in a vehicle. This wasted valuable development time. The new ASAP software makes it possible to experience and evaluate HUD concepts using the Microsoft HoloLens – from the start of the conceptual phase. Beyond saving customers money, it also saves time and helps to ensure an optimal user experience for the driver. Combined with a mixed-reality headset, this software facilitates precise positioning of the virtual image during the drive. The aim is to obtain UX and usability insights at an early stage and incorporate them in vehicle development at an early stage.
The challenge of autonomous driving.
Validating software functions in vehicles with a high degree of automation presents new challenges for the automotive industry. 1,000,000,000 – this is the volume of theoretically possible traffic situations that an autonomous vehicle needs to master. This multiplicity of scenarios simply cannot be tested manually. We use virtual methods to assist you with the validation of autonomous driving functions. Wolfgang Hensel – Senior Expert, Functional Validation | Reference vehicles.
From a design engineer to a senior expert: since joining ASAP in 2011, Wolfgang Hensel has worked in the field of reference vehicle analysis. Originally a design engineer, the scope of his activities grew rapidly over time. Since then, he has been responsible for fields including reference vehicle analysis, IOP charge testing and HV battery analysis. With academic training in electrical engineering and information technology, Hensel tests the suitability of control devices for wire harnesses and monitors vehicles for customer-relevant malfunctions. “My working day at ASAP is extremely varied; I work from a desk as well as on vehicles directly and, as a senior expert, I have a lot of contact with our customers,” explains Hensel.
